About

I’m a gay man (he/him) born in Singapore in 1980.

I’ve devoted my life to excavating and reimagining the often marginal histories, myths & literatures of Southeast Asia.

I’ve written in a bunch of genres—poetry, fiction, non-fiction, journalism, plays, performance lectures—with additional work in editing and translation. Some of my best-known books include the speculative fiction collection Lion City and the poetry collection last boy (both winners of the Singapore Literature Prize), and the best-selling SQ21: Singapore Queers in the 21st Century.

I’ve also done a small amount of activist and organising work in the queer community, formerly serving as the director of IndigNation: Singapore’s Pride Season and a curator of SEAQCF: the Southeast Asian Queer Cultural Festival.
